I was honestly nervous about joining alone. Two hours later it felt like we'd known each other forever.

I came on board with no sailing experience and left with real skills and new friends. I knew right away this wouldn't be my last trip.

A week on a boat with complete strangers? That definitely worried me. The feeling disappeared much faster than I expected.

How much space will I have on the yacht?

The images show an example yacht. Equipment, layout, and design may vary depending on the vessel.
Most crew members are surprised by how much space a sailing yacht actually offers. Whether enjoying a meal together in the cockpit, on the swim platform, sunbathing on deck, or relaxing in the cozy saloon – there are plenty of places to unwind and socialize on board. The cabins provide storage for all your essentials, and depending on the yacht, there are often multiple bathrooms. After a swim, you can often simply hop under the outdoor shower and enjoy life right on the water.
In addition to the trip price, you'll also need to factor in your travel expenses to and from the destination, as well as the crew cash box.
This cash box covers shared expenses such as food, port fees, diesel, and restaurant meals. This ensures that costs are fairly distributed among the entire crew, allowing you to plan your week flexibly.
You'll share a cabin with another member of your crew. You and your crewmates will decide together upon arrival on board. We prioritize same-sex cabins. Many crew members get to know their future cabin-mates already in the crew chat before the trip.
You organize your own travel arrangements, giving you complete flexibility. The exact time and meeting point can be found in the respective trip description. You can use the crew chat to connect with other participants before the trip, book flights together, or organize carpools. Many arrive the day before to explore the destination or get to know the crew. For many, the adventure begins even before the first day on board.
Safety is always our top priority. That's why our skippers plan the route flexibly and adapt it to the current conditions. Should the weather not cooperate, we seek out sheltered bays or beautiful harbors and continue the day together. Depending on the destination, this might involve a shore excursion, a restaurant visit, or a relaxing afternoon with the crew. The best stories often emerge on those days that don't go as planned.
Seasickness is much less common than you might think. Most crew members get used to the movement on the water after a short time and have no problems. Should you feel unwell, your skipper will be happy to help you with practical tips. If you are prone to seasickness, you can ask your doctor or pharmacist about suitable remedies beforehand.
Yes, absolutely! At Join The Crew, you're not just a guest, you're part of the crew. If you'd like, you can actively participate in sailing, take the helm, set the sails, or help with docking and undocking. Our skippers will show you everything step by step and answer any questions you may have. This way, you'll learn the basics of sailing almost without realizing it – even without prior experience.
Immediately after booking, you'll receive access to your personal JTC profile and a chat with all fellow crew members on your chosen sailing date. Approximately two weeks before the trip you will gain access to the crew chat of your boat. Feel free to ask questions, coordinate your travel arrangements, or plan your first evening together. This often makes the first day on board feel more like a reunion than a first meeting.
