Our Explorer Tours take you right into the heart of a country’s real life. By car or minivan, you’ll travel from spot to spot. Along the way, you’ll discover remote hiking trails, spontaneous encounters, and the best outdoor adventures each region has to offer.
Our explorer tours are carefully planned to offer relaxed travel with longer stops, more leisure time, and more flexible activities.
Our local guide is not only our navigator through the country but also our authentic window into their culture.
Explore the diversity of the country in your own vehicle with a local guide or as a driver in a rental car - either way, you're free to explore on your own terms.
Experience real outdoor adventures on our explorer tours. Each tour is filled with active hands-on experiences that go beyond mere tourism.
For explorer tours with rental cars, it's a good idea to have a driver's license, but it's not mandatory. You can coordinate in the crew chat beforehand to decide who will drive the rental cars. There's always a main driver and a backup driver.
To make packing as easy as possible, we've put together some sample packing lists for you. You can find the packing lists for all the different tours here.
You don't need any special equipment. The gear for any water sports activities will be provided by our outdoor sports partners. For other activities, you'll just need regular hiking and sports clothing.
Your guide will also provide packing tips in the crew chat.
For explorer tours, it's always recommended to bring a backpack instead of a suitcase. Since we often change accommodations, a backpack is much more practical to transport and requires less storage space in the rental car or minivan (depending on the destination).
For destinations outside of Europe, you will need to obtain a visa. More detailed information can be found in the key details of each tour description.
Certain destinations may require specific vaccinations. You should consult a travel medicine clinic for more information on this.
Regarding travel arrangements, we recommend arriving one day before the tour begins for intercontinental flights. This allows flexibility in case of flight delays, ensuring you arrive on time for the tour.
For further details, refer to the specific tour description or ask your JTC guide after booking.
All crew members plan their arrival and departure independently. Unfortunately, we can't provide recommendations on the best travel options because individual circumstances, budget considerations, and preferences vary greatly. In general, we've had great experiences with Skyscanner or Kayak.
If you're flexible with your travel dates, it's worth comparing prices around your desired timeframe (+/- 1 or 2 days). Often, significant price differences can be observed, allowing you more time to immerse yourself in the culture and surroundings. For bus connections, check Rome2Rio. You can find detailed entry requirements on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.
